BuildIT was proud to be a featured presenter at the 2024 International LGBTQ Leaders Conference held in Washington, D.C. in collaboration with the National League of Cities (NLC). BuildIT’s president, Paul Pendergast, was a featured speaker at the event highlighting our Affordable Housing Construction Initiative which began in 2023 with the support of Swinerton Builders, NPH, and hundreds of Developers, General Contractors and Specialty Contractors.
Special thanks to Victor Aguillar who is NCL’s Past President of the LGBTQ National Caucus. His leadership and vision was pivotal in bringing the issues surrounding Affordable Housing Construction to the forefront of this conference.
The National League of Cities (NLC) is an organization comprised of city, town and village leaders who are focused on improving the quality of life for their current and future constituents. With over 100 years of dedication to the strength and advancement of local governments, NLC has gained the trust and support of more than 2,700 cities across the nation. Our mission is to relentlessly advocate for, and protect the interests of, cities, towns and villages by influencing federal policy, strengthening local leadership and driving innovative solutions.
BuildIT’s nationally recognized Affordable Housing Construction Initiative is a multi-phase program which utilizes the experience, qualifications and capacity of LGBT/Allied businesses in the development of Affordable Housing Projects. One of our key projects is the 15-story Affordable Housing Project that will house LGBTQ Seniors, and others, located at 1939 Market Street in San Francisco. Special thanks to Mercy Housing (Developer) and Swinerton Builders, and Rubecon Builders (General Contractors) for this opportunity to create meaningful jobs through scopes of work that may range from hoisting, crane operators, miscellaneous metals, electrical supplies, steel fabrication, program and construction management, rebar materials procurement and installation, concrete finishes, carpentry, painting, structural engineering and others. This project is currently in the Pre-Construction Phase and will have its groundbreaking in 2025.
Honored to be joined on stage at this event by Josh Dubensky, Housing Policy Advocate for SAGE. Founded in 1978 and headquartered in New York City, SAGE is an organization that advocates with, and on behalf of LGBTQ+ older people and their caregivers.
